U.S. lawmakers have spoken out against Pegasus eavesdropping software developed by the Israeli company NSO Group. Democrat lawmakers have called on the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden to blacklist the NSO for exports, according to the Guardian, a UK media outlet.Thousands of people's mobile phone data has been hacked or attempted using this Pegasus in different countries of the world. Forbidden Stories, a Paris-based non-profit news organization, has a database of more than 50,000 phone numbers. Later, in collaboration with the human rights organization Amnesty International, 18 international media outlets from different countries searched for the numbers.
The media has also published a list of those who have been eavesdropped on their mobile phones using this Pegasus.According to the Washington Post, four lawmakers from the ruling Democrats have hinted at blacklisting or banning the organization.
These four are members of the lower house of Congress. They are Tom Malinsky, Katie Porter, Joaquin Castro and Anna G. Ishu."Enough is enough," they said in a statement. We are of the view that the hacking must be brought under control in the wake of the recent misuse of software by the NSO group, ”he said. If necessary, this institution will be closed.
The four lawmakers called on the US Department of Commerce to take action against the NSO group. Apart from this, if there is any other such software like NSO group's eavesdropping software, they have also called for taking action against them. Besides, these four lawmakers have demanded an investigation by the central government.
