US-visa ban on Zimbabwe Uganda

The United States has announced the implementation of the visa ban policy due to the erosion of democracy in Zimbabwe. And in Uganda, the United States announced the expansion of the visa ban policy.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced this on Monday. This information was reported in a separate press release of the US State Department. The news release was published on two US State Department websites.

In the case of Zimbabwe, the United States, under its policy, will impose visa restrictions on individuals deemed responsible or involved in undermining democracy in the country (Zimbabwe).

Undermining democracy by the United States includes electoral fraud, disenfranchising voters, preventing the exercise of voting rights, excluding political opponents from the electoral process, limiting the ability of civil society organizations to operate, through threats or physical violence. Intimidation of voters, election observers or civil society organizations.

In the case of Uganda, the United States has announced the extension of the visa ban policy to undermine democracy and repress the country.

Blinken announced a visa ban policy targeting those responsible for undermining the country's democratic process following Uganda's flawed 2021 presidential election, according to a US State Department news release. During the (election) Blinken urged the Ugandan government to significantly improve its record, hold accountable those responsible for the flawed electoral process, violence and intimidation.

Now he has announced the expansion of the US visa ban policy for current and former Ugandan officials or others. Those responsible for policies or actions aimed at undermining Uganda's democratic process, oppressing members of marginalized or vulnerable communities will be covered by the ban.
