Two diplomats at the Pakistani embassy in Seoul have been charged with stealing goods from a store in South Korea. The Korea Times quoted the country's police as saying in a report on Sunday.
According to South Korean police, two thefts occurred on separate days at a store in the country's capital, Seoul. Two people have been identified as involved in the theft. Separate thefts occur on different days in the same store.
One person stole 1,900 ounces of chocolate on January 10. Another stole a hat worth 11,000 won on February 23.An employee of the store lodged a complaint with the police after the hat was stolen. Police identified the suspected thief by looking at CCTV footage.
South Korean police say they have confirmed that a 35-year-old diplomat from the Pakistani embassy stole a hat from a store.
After investigation, the police ended the case by taking no action against the suspected thief. Because, diplomats get immunity.However, the police wrote in a note in the case that a colleague of the diplomat had paid for the stolen item. For this reason, the owner of the store no longer demanded punishment for the thief.
Suspects involved in other thefts also enjoy diplomatic immunity. Police are still investigating the allegation of chocolate theft. Police said they were notified of the theft earlier this month.
