Online desk Foreign troops deployed in Libya have not left the country as per the UN deadline. A UN-brokered ceasefire agreement reached between the two sides three months ago said all foreign troops stationed in Libya would leave the country by January 23.
But no country withdrew its troops until January 23. The government stationed in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, has international support, and Turkey is supporting the Tripoli government. Russia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt are supporting General Haftar's forces, which control eastern Libya.
CNN reported that satellite images and video clips showed that "Russian troops" were deployed several kilometers away near the Libyan city of Sirte. Apparently Russia and Turkey want to keep their troops deployed in Libya to further their own interests from any compromise.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said last week that all regional and international forces should implement the agreement reached on October 23 to withdraw troops from Libya. The United Nations estimates that Libya has about 20,000 foreign troops in support of both sides. Source: Purse Today.
