In 2014, an Air Asia plane crashed in the Java Sea due to stormy weather. It killed 162 people. The plane was en route from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore.
Ground accident
In 2005, Mandala Airlines' domestic flight crashed. The plane crashed in the Medan suburb of Sumatra, which has a population of 2 million. It killed 150 passengers and crew.
Military plane crashes
In 2015, another plane crashed on the ground. Shortly after taking off in June of that year, a residential area of the Indonesian military airfield crashed. 122 riders were killed. Most of the dead were army members and their families. Several houses were destroyed and 20 people were killed in the incident.
Air force plane crashes
Shortly after takeoff in 1991, the engine of an Air Force aircraft caught fire. The plane crashed in East Jakarta, killing 135 people. 121 of them were members of the Air Force. The plane crashed in the New Year
In 2006, on New Year's Day, an Adam Air plane crashed into the sea on the island of Sulawesi. All 102 people on board were killed. These airlines were later banned. Indonesian authorities say the pilot lost control of the plane due to poor management.
