Nepal's PM warns India over border issue

Nepal's Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has again warned India on the border issue. Oli said Nepal would try to retake Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura areas.

On Sunday, Nepal's Prime Minister Oli said the area was part of Nepal's border under the Sugauli Agreement.

Nepal released a new map last June. In that map, Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura areas are shown as belonging to Nepal. Kathmandu claims that after the Anglo-Nepalese War of 1818, according to the Sugauli Treaty, Limpiyadhura, Kalapani and Lipulekh were in no way Indian. After that the debate started.

Attacking India, the Prime Minister of Nepal said that the Foreign Minister of Nepal is going to visit India on January 14. The new map published there will be discussed. Long-standing controversial issues will come up. The two countries will look for a solution.

Oli said Nepal is determined to strengthen ties with India. But India also needs to cooperate. Nepal has said it will not compromise to protect its own interests.

International relations experts believe that such remarks have heated up relations between the two countries before the foreign ministers of the two countries will meet in a few days.
