Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has said no to a tempting offer from Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia has offered a large sum of money to the Barাa captain to take part in the promotion of the country's tourism board.
And Messi has directly rejected that offer. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post.
According to Marca, a popular sports-based media in Europe, Saudi Arabia is going to launch a promotional campaign 'Visit Saudi' to make its tourism industry more known around the world. The Saudi Tourism Board tempted Lionel Messi to take part in the campaign. But the Barাa star did not heed Saudi Arabia's request.
The same offer was made to Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo.
According to the UK-based Telegraph, the country's tourism board has offered Ronaldo six million euros a year (about Rs 62 crore in Bangladeshi currency) to take part in the "Visit Saudi" campaign. CR Seven rejected the offer of huge amount.
Meanwhile, Messi walked the same path as his arch-rival Ronaldo. However, details of how much money was offered to him were not known.
The campaign will start from next month. The country wants to add the biggest stars of the sports world to bring this campaign to the attention of the world.
It is to be noted that the Saudi government has adopted a strategy to overcome the image crisis through sports. As part of this, Saudi Arabia hosted the Spanish Super Cup in 2019 with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Valencia. This time, the country wants to include the best footballers in the world in the campaign from that plan.
