At least 15 people have been killed in an attack on a bus in Syria. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based watchdog, said on Monday that most of those killed were Syrian government troops.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said a surprise attack was carried out on a Syrian army bus last Sunday night, Reuters reported. The attack killed eight government soldiers, four fighters known as their allies and three civilians.
However, the Syrian state news agency said nine people had been killed in the attack. They are all civilians.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack in Syria. However, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the attack was carried out by the international militant group Islamic State (IS). A car and a fuel tanker were also attacked in the Wadi al-Ajib area of Hama province during Sunday's attack. 15 people were injured.
This is the second such attack on a bus in recent times. On December 30, 36 soldiers were killed in an ISA attack in the Syrian province of Deir Ezzor.
Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said the number of IS attacks had increased again since last spring. The attacks are targeting government forces, especially in the border Badia area.
Commenting on the recent attacks in Syria, analyst Ayman al-Tamini said that it was clear through these attacks that it was difficult to remove ISK from the border areas.
Since the start of the Syrian civil war in 2011, 3 lakh 8 thousand people have lost their lives so far. In addition, millions of people have been displaced. Besides, about 6,000 people have been killed in 2020 alone.
