The 55-year-old patient is undergoing treatment in a cabin of Bardem Hospital under the supervision of Professor M Delwar Hossain. The patient's home is in Satkhira district. About a month ago, he contracted corona and was treated at Khulna Medical College Hospital. When he recovered, he went home. This patient had uncontrolled diabetes. He had kidney problems. He recovered after contracting Kovid. It was not understood at the time of treatment that he was suffering from mucomycosis. It is known after death.Microbiologists say mucormycosis is not a new fungus. This fungus is present in the environment. People with low immunity are at higher risk of contracting the fungus.
Professor M Delwar Hossain said, ‘People with uncontrolled diabetes have a higher risk. Some people who take steroids can also be affected.Mucormycosis is not contagious. It can infect any part of the body. Around the nose, eye infections are more common. Eye infections can spread quickly to the brain. Blood flow to the affected area stops, the area becomes black. That is why it is called 'Black Fungus'.
In India, mycobacterium tuberculosis is a widespread disease. So far 8,800 people have been infected with the fungus in the country.
