New Delhi The US State Department has acknowledged a significant improvement in the human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir. This is explained in detail in its 2020 Country Report on Human Rights Practices submitted to the US Congress. The report said that the Government of India is gradually removing security and communication restrictions to normalize the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The government has released most of the political leaders and activists kept under house arrest.The government restored Internet service in January. However, the Four G facility is banned in most parts of Jammu and Kashmir. The government is delimiting the assembly constituencies. However, the date of assembly elections has not been announced yet. The report said that a coalition of opposition parties won the majority of seats in the local body elections held in December.
