16 killed, 14 injured in US-Mexico bus crash


 PHOENIX - At least 16 people have been killed and 14 injured in a head-on collision between two buses carrying workers at a gold mine south of the U.S.-Mexico border near Arizona.

According to the Sonora Attorney General's Office, the accident took place at 3:30 a.m. local time on Tuesday near the Noche Buena mine entrance, about two hours south of the entrance to the port of Louvville, Arizona.The mine used two buses to shuttle workers, it said in a press release. Pictures from the crash site showed the two buses colliding head-on, blocking a two-lane road.

All 16 passengers traveling between the two buses died on the spot. The attorney general's office said 14 people on the larger bus were taken to Cabarca, near Sonora.
