An ultimatum has been issued to arrest Hefazat central leader Maulana Mamunul Haque and those accused of sabotage during the strike by next Sunday. If they are not arrested within the stipulated time, the National Ulema Mashayekh Unity Council will hold a morning-evening hartal next Monday.
The demand and program was announced at a human chain organized by the organization at the National Press Club on Monday.
Leaders and activists of the human chain said that the city of Brahmanbaria has been reduced to rubble due to the protests of Hefazat. At least 50 public and private installations have been vandalized and burnt, including multiple portraits of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The Ulema Mashayekh Unity Parishad has given an ultimatum to arrest Maulana Mamunul Haque, the central leader of Hefazat, by April 4 for these sabotage. Otherwise, the morning-evening hartal program will be observed next Monday.
Bangladesh United Islamic Party Chairman Maulana Mohammad in his speech as the chief guest. Ismail Hossain said, "Islam is a religion of peace. Islam never supports sabotage. No one supports the way Hefazat is trying to spread Islam through arson and sabotage. We demand that the trial be completed as soon as possible by bringing the accused under the law through proper investigation. '
